I want to install Windows 2000 on a Computer, and I have made the 4 Boot
Disks. When I am asked to insert the second boot disk, I put it in, and when
it starts up again, I get this message, "ohci1394.sys is corrupted." I was
wondering if there is any way to get this file or how do I get it so it is
not corrupted?
Thanks

Simply recreate the boot disks. Here's how:

Are you aware that the Windows CD is bootable itself? You'll have to change a
setting in the BIOS so that the CD-ROM drive is looked at before the HDD is
during the boot cycle. Naturally, if the you're installing Win2K on an old
system that doesn't have this feature, then the four boot disks can be used
instead, but keep in mind that after the forth disk completes its duties, it
asks for the Win2K CD to complete the installation/setup.

There are other ways.

This article explains the various methods that can be used to install Windows
2000:

Thanks, but this wont work, I havent installed the OS yet. I have a blank
computer and want Windows 2000 on it. The OS disk I have was a copy and cant
be read from startup, thus going right to blank screen. The OS is on the CD,
but the computer cant start the setup from it.

If this is a ligit cd you can boot it by changing your bios boot order to cd
first

Or you can get a 98 boot diskette with cdrom support and use that to mount
the cd, go to the assigned drive letter, go to the i386 folder and type winnt
to start install.

I have my BIOS set to boot from CD, but it wont recongized the startup from
the CD
And I dont have a Windows 98 Disk.

goto bootdisk.com, get a bootable diskette image, use it to initialize
the CDE's winnt.exe.

Ok, I got through the setup, made new boot disks, not a new issue. It said
insert the Windows 2000 Disk. The disk I have is a copy, but I have a legal
license for it. It wont recongize that it is a Windows Disk. Any way for it
to be recongized? Like what files need to be on the main disk, or in folders,
or whatnot?

The message read please insert Windows 2000 Professional into the CD ROM
drive, I inserted it like the screen said, and then it said to press any key.
I press a key and nothing happens, it goes back to the same please
instert.... screen

You didn't mention the drive controller (possibly SCSI, or ultra DMA, or
ATA100, or raid, or serial ATA), but you may need to boot the Windows 2000
setup disks or CD-Rom and *F6* very early and very important (at setup is
inspecting your system) in the setup to prevent drive controller detection,
and select S to specify additional drivers. Then later you'll be prompted to
insert the manufacturer supplied Windows 2000 driver for your drive's
controller in drive "A"

If you wait and then S to specify additional drivers, then it may be too
late as Windows 2000 Setup at this point may have already assigned the
resources your drive's controller is wanting to use.

You may find it easier to go back to your source of this copy and request that a
1:1 copy be made of an original CD.

In order to have a bootable CD, a 1:1 copy must be made in lieu of using the
standard file copy method. Using Nero, this 1:1 copy method is called "CD Copy",
whereas the standard method for data is labeled as "CD-ROM (ISO)".

The invisible bootsector files are copied using the 1:1 method, otherwise they
are missed when using the standard method.

I pushed the f6 and it asked for the manufacturers disk, which I dont have.
When I made the copy awhile ago, I copyed the windows 2000 folder onto a
disk. On the main screen of my disk, it has a folder named windows 2000 and
system 32. Is there like a bootup thing that i need to burn on the disk
also? Thanks

- Boot the machine from any DOS-type bootable diskette (bootdisk.com).
- Then put the W2k CD in its drive.
- Then navigate to the W2k \i386 directory.
- Then find the winnt.exe file.
- Run that winnt.exe program. It will install W2k for you.

If you don't have a CD with the \i386 directory on it you are completely
out of luck.

I got it working, I burned a new disk, and had to put the auto run file on
the main layer of the disk, so it could read that is was there. Thanks for
all your help!
