My machine gets the first boot up sequence then freezes. After a time a sound
comes out and I am asked if I want to go to Setup or Boot. I boot up via this
prompt and it oviously takes ages. I think I have a corrupt file and suspect
I may have to format my hard drive. This I would rather not do. Is there
anyway I can repair my hard disk? Running WXP SP2

It is unclear exactly when the error occurs. Please post back with a
better description. Include the exact text of the error message and the
precise place the system "freezes". Include the exact text of the
"Setup or Boot" message. Also please tell us something about your
computer - hardware specs, if it is old, an OEM (HP, Dell, Compaq,
etc.).

If the system fails before the operating system (Windows) is booted,
this is a hardware problem but without more information from you, we
can't determine this.
