Boot up failure

My Windows XP Professional after loading and getting all
things running, refused to boot from HDD, stating boot
error. I refromatted drives etc. and re-loaded. Same
error some hours later. Restored with FIXMBR in recovery
menu. Got working, shut down - same error.

Any ideas?

HDD is 40GB ATA133 partitioned into two drives; Epox
MBoard and Athlon 2500+ chip.

Boot virus? Checked hard drive cables and switches? Correct cable type
being used (80 wire)? Boot order in BIOS is set for hard drive? Spin up
time allowed for drive from a cold start is adequate?

The drive should keep the ability to boot unless it's failing, infected or
there is some other hardware problem. FIX /MBR shouldn't be necessary on a
new setup and its use is exceptional on an older one. That it was needed so
soon is not a good sign. May want to find the diagnostic hardware from the
manufacturer's website to see how the drive tests out.
