On every PC I've owned when I turn it on an initial text screen displays
with the BIOS version, memory test, etc., followed by a second screen. I
recently replaced my monitor with a ViewSonic CRT and the normal first
screen no longer displays. I don't recall any option in the set-up regarding
this, and can't find any setting in my BIOS that would have a bearing. I
seem to recall a post some time ago about a similar problem, but can't find
it. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Is your monitor already warmed up when you turn on the computer? I've had
CRTs that don't show anything until after that screen so I turned on the
boot menu.

some monitors do that. They just are slow to draw an initial display.
