You can boot into a sort of DOS mode by hitting PF8 lots of times when XP is
starting and selecting the option when it comes up.

Sure are a lot of old familiar DOS files when looking thru XP's

Yes. Nevertheless, Chris is correct. Windows XP does not include
DOS.

Windows XP is completely 32Bit. No true version of DOS exists. You can get
a command prompt emulator while within Windows XP, but DOS is not there.

DOS is an operating system. Windows 9x was an extention built on top of
DOS, so you could start the system without the graphical, 32bit
extension and essentially live in DOS. Windows XP is not an extension.
It is a separate operating system with no concept of what DOS is,
because DOS was never a part of it. So you cannot boot to DOS (you can
boot off a floppy with DOS on the floppy, but unless your hard drive is
FAT, you won't see it).

Windows NT, 2000, and XP have a nice program called cmd.exe (Command
Prompt in the Accessories area). This is an application that LOOKS and
ACTS like DOS did. It is a convenience for people familiar with DOS.
It is NOT DOS. What you can do in DOS you can do in cmd.exe, but you
cannot run cmd.exe without loading all of Windows XP.

Boot off a floppy that has an old version of DOS on it. If your drives are
Fat32 you may be able to read them.
