Boot / Shutdown Problem w New Computer

I have a problem with a new computer, Systemax Dual Core (AMD). The system
appears to shutdown properly, but on rebooting, the system hangs at the first
appearance of the Windows Logo, which is very faint (right after the option
to boot from CD). After pushing the reset button I get the screen with boot
options after an improper shutdown. It will boot fine (with a checkdisk
operation) when choosing the “boot normally†option.

I looked into the event viewer and noticed that the Microsoft Service
Control Manager (as viewed in the System section of the Event Viewer) reports
an error - “The BrSplService service has reported an invalid current state
0.†(event ID of 7016) message at all shutdowns. Might this be related?

This service does not show up in the process manager. I suspect that this is
a process from the Brother MFC 420CN multifunction printer I am using, but I
cannot find a way to locate and shut down that process before shutdown (I do
not have the brother software setup to run automatically, and the problem
occurs whether I use the printer or not.

Is the BrSplService related (or is it even important) or is there something
else that might be causing the boot problems?

BrSplService is the spooling service for Brother printers. You might try
Brother support.
