boot sequence

I am trying to format and reinstall the os but need to do the boot sequence
first
Dell Inspiron xp sp1 (sp2 removed so the disk would work)
I reinstalled the OS instead of reformat b/c I chose the first option
upgrade rather than advaced(I think)


Boot sequence
1-tap f2 and enter the system upon restart
2-hilite 'boot sequence'
Problem here as I press enter and nothing happens I press the space bar and
see the lengthy cd\dvd\cd-r etc etc that is supposed to be at the top
I hilite it but CANNOT FIND WHAT TO PRESS to display the "available boot
devices" so I can move ide-cd rom to the top.

Could you please tell me how to do this boot sequence rather than referring
me as I have treid to read the manuels and they are too hard for a non tech.
Also they don't mention fornmatting, just reinstall.
I now need help with Boot Sequence mentioned above.

Hi ,
Re: boot preference if i remember correctly , F2 .boot order using
the up
and down keys you will move a blob just along side just line up to which
order you need.
I am not on the Dell Dimension at this time ,F10 Save and exit
