Boot sector virus advice please.

Recently installed a new hard drive with 98SE os. When loading os, pc hung
at start advising on a boot sector virus. Disabled virus watch in Bios and
managed to load. Up and running with no apparent problems. AVG on board with
no reports of problem. Have not changed bios setting.

Obviously did complete reformat and partition on installation and if there
is a problem I guess its lodged in the motherboard. Any thoughts as to whats
going on and how to sort out without board replacement, much appreciated.

I could be wrong but I don't think that there's anything the matter. The
virus detector built into the bios has simply picked up that somethings
trying to write to the boot sector and is flagging it up as a possible
virus. You are supposed to disable bios virus detection IIRC when
installing an OS.

this especially happens during reformatting for example, when the sofware
thats doing the reformatting writes the MBR to the boot sector. I think
you're safe here m8. :)
