Whenever I boot Windows in my Win2k pro laptop I get a fast fading screen
titled Phoenix NetBios SetUp something or other. Because it fades so quickly
I cannot determine what is listed in it but it seems to me it slows down an
already slow startup process, so I'd like to know how to prevent it from
showing. Can someone help? Thanks.

If you press the pause/break key at the right time, the screen should pause
until you press enter.

Ray, thanks for your response. I have another question, will pressing
pause/break and then enter prevent the screen from appearing ever again?

josie - that screen is generated by the BIOS during Power On Self Test
(POST), and it's very unlikely that you can (or should) disable it. It
is intended to provide you with a short interval during which, if you
press a certain key or key-combination as instructed on that screen, you
can gain entry to the BIOS and adjust various settings that give your
machine the particular personality and behavior and device support that
you have come to know and love. You laptop manual should explain this ad
nauseam.

The short answer to your question is no.

Pause does exactly what it says; it stops the machine until some other
key is pressed, at which time the machine resumes what it was doing from
the point at which it paused. There's no other effect.
