I understand that boot.ini is gone from Vista and that BCDEDIT.exe has
replaced it. I simply want to rename the Operating Systems in the boot
menu. Below is info from my XP boot:
**
;
;Warning: Boot.ini is used on Windows XP and earlier operating systems.
;Warning: Use BCDEDIT.exe to modify Windows Vista boot options.
;
[boot loader]
timeout=10
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN /FASTDETECT
c:\="Microsoft Windows 98 Plus! Second Edition"
**
What I'd like to change in the Vista boot loader is the name of Windows to
Vista and the name of Earlier Windows to Windows XP Professional.
I tried to open BCDEDIT.exe in a command line (CMD) in Vista, but I kept
getting a "you're not authorized to access this" or something similar to
that.
Question - Is there any way to change the titles of the Operating Systems as
there is in Windows XP using notepad?
Thanks
