Boot remote computer from local computer

I have a simple remote desktop setup consisting of a remote computer running
XP Professional and a local computer (laptop) running XP Home Edition. When
connected I can shut down the remote computer from the local computer (using
Ctrl-Alt-End).

Is there any simple way, having disconnected and shut down the remote
computer, I can reboot it from the local computer? I have searched various
newsgroups without success.
 
If you want to shutdown a remote computer, you can use shutdown command. If
you do a lot, you may create a batch file including shutdown command. Also
make sure you have right to do so.

Short answer: Hell no. You shut it down.

It's been powered down if ACPI had anything to say about it. If it's
in waiting for restart mode the system is down and it has no
networking active so there is no way to access it remotely.

You don't shut down an XP Pro computer, you logoff or you restart it
through the shutdown/restart dialogs.

The OP has stated he already shut it down, he wants to initiate a
restart remotely. (Is there a magic packet to powerup a PC?)

Do you know of a version of remote desktop server on Windows XP Pro
Workstation that does NOT require administrator privileges to use?

If one assigns a user to the Remote Users group, does this not
automatically confer shutdown/restart access?

Yes - I have no problem shutting down (or performing shutdown/restart) remotely. I am looking for a way of restarting remotely after the remote computer has been shutdown for some time. I suspect there is no simple way to do this. Incidentally, I have administrator privileges.
