Looked in various places for info on this, either I'm dyslexic or unlucky,
found nowt (Yorkshire-speak, = 0).

On boot up, Adaware (for one) kicks in quite quickly, noticeably interfering
with/slowing down other start-up prog initialisations.

I want to re-order the boot sequence, placing Adaware last. How do I do it
?

Secondary question - does "defrag" or NU "Speed-disk" re-order start prog.
sequence? Adaware is loading up/running before MS Office toolbar, which was
in place before Adaware, as one example.

Tertiary query - is it normal for XP Home to take about 3 minutes to close
down ?

First two critical questions that need be answered since the answer may well
make the rest of the your problems moot.

Why do you have Adaware running at every startup? Is this Lavasoft's
Ad-Aware.exe or is it adaware.exe? Carefully note the difference between the
names. The former is a good tool and the latter is spyware bordering on
official malware.

Walter, thanks for response - answers
My wife and daughter both use the net freely, seeking information and
specific "bargains" - Lavasoft Ad-Aware 6 (kept updated) knocks out the
spyware they collect on their jaunts, at boot-up. Apologise for typo -
wasn't aware of "adaware.exe" else would have been more careful.

I prefer to not run Ad-Aware all of the time as well but can understand why
you have elected to do so. There may be an alternative for you... I just
installed something called "Spyware Blaster." It sets "kill bits" in the
registry that block the installation of known spyware and malware. That's
my first layer of protection. I manually run AdAware and "Spybot Search and
Destroy" about once a week.

All of the above mentioned programs need to be updated on a regular basis.
Suggest running their Update function before every scanning.

Thanks again, Sharon - have disable Ad-Aware at boot-up, d/l SpywareBlaster,
just about to install.
Will look for Spybot in a while (one thing at a time).
