I recently upgraded win98se to XP Pro on 2 computers. both ran fine for several days. Now 1 is stuck in an endless reboot cylce on start-up. What are some things that can cause this and how do I fix it? (and by the way I did purchase an additional software license.)
Thanks

boot to the xp cd...use the restore console when given the option. When you get to what looks something like an old dos screen type: fixmbr (enter) it'll give you some warnings...continue with the rewrite. that should only take a second to complete. then type fixdsk /r (enter) the system will probably try to reboot at this point. that's fine let it reboot from the hard drive. when the system starts it will go through a proceedure similar to 98se scandisk. If it doesn't...once the computer enters windows open a "dos" prompt and type fixdsk /r (enter) again. it'll give you a message about doing it next time windows starts. Hope this helps.
