I'm not exactly sure what kind of motherboard I have, but it is nothing new. Nor is my current processor, a 900mhz duron.

So Here's the problem. When I first boot up my pc, It does the usual check for my CPU, memory, and drives. It picks up my CPU, but freezes when it is trying to detect my memory. I can't get into Bios either, because my keyboard seems to be without power or unable to work when it freezes.

Is there anything I can do or will I need to buy a new motherboard?

If it is a USB keyboard, try a PS/2 one, i have had a problem with USB keyboards in BIOS before (not on my current pc)

:) Hi Makjesa
When you remove the memory, rub a Rubber eraser across the gold contacts, you might have what they call a "High resistance joint"
Try inserting the memory into a differant slot.(if there is one)
Be carefull not to touch the gold contacts though:eek:

The computer hasnt been moved recently has it? Just make sure everything is seated properly.

Do you get any beep codes?

No, my computer hasn't been moved. I also don't get any beep codes. I was in the middle of using it when it suddeny restarted and that's when the problem started.

That was my first thought, so I did and it didn't work either.

A strong possibility of a mains spike ... or power supply problem.

Open the case, with the system un-plugged from the mains, and disconnect the power cables to the hard drive & also remove the ribbon cable.

Remove any non-essential cards such as modem, sound and Ethernet PCI cards.

Try booting again ... no 'beep' may indicate a faulty MB.

Would help if you can tell us more about what components the PC has.
