I recently reinstalled XP on a new drive old drive removed. When I boot up I
get message "primary drive not found strike F1 to continue or F2 to setup.
My SATA drive, set as primary boot drive in the BIOS is where XP is
installed. My Boot.ini file show the following: [boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home

If I press F1 the system boots up but very slowly. Once booted up speed is
normal. How do I get it to just boot up with out showing this F1 option?

Paul:
There are a number of motherboards having multiple SATA connectors that
insist that the boot drive be connected to the SATA1 or (sometimes the)
SATA2 connector. In many cases, if the SATA (boot) HD is connected to either
the SATA3 or SATA4 connectors (assuming the motherboard contains these
additional SATA connectors), that F1 message you speak of will occur.

I'm not sure that *is* what's causing your problem but in any event
carefully review your motherboard's user guide concerning SATA connections,
boot priority, and related material such as RAID options (even though you
may be working with a single SATA drive). And tell us the make/model of your
motherboard.

Also, you must follow special steps when you install Windows on a sata drive.
Here's a good guide: http://www.djdenham.com/Install Procedures.htm#Install

What special instructions? That link is to _preinstalled WXP-.
I have 2 raptors on a RAID 0, all that was necessary was the F6 for
the RAID. The other just has 1 SATA, XP just picked it up and
installed.
