I have a new acer notebook, but upon trying to boot up, I get a message saying, operating system not found, tried to 'recover' by following instructions, but still same. Any ideas?

If this is a new notebook, I'd send it back to where it came from for repair as that is some severe mis-configuration. Has it worked at all before?

yes it is definately going back, just wondered if it was a common problem that I could sort myself without having to send it back and be without it for god knows how long.

If it is literally just out of the box, it sounds like they haven't installed the operating system for you. It's possible that you have to install the O/S yourself using the Windows CD, but I've never seen this on a laptop before. What make is it?

it is an acer 5630 it looks like it is just one of those freak things, they forgot to install o/s. No discs with it.

Thanks for the advice , will be on to them first thing in the morning.
