For some time now I have been having a trouble when
rebooting my PC which has WinXP Home Edition. On reboot it
requires the CD to be in the drive, otherwise I get "boot
device not found" error; I think it is only on reboot, but
I could be wrong. Does anyone know why this happens and
how to fix it? At one point I tried to find this issue in
the Knowledge base and thought it was related to a service
pack/update that caused this but now I cannot find the
article. I have checked my computer for viruses and found
nothing.

Please help as this is very annoying.

Thanks in advance!

Go into your BIOS......tap Delete key steady when first
starting up your Comp. When your in BIOS you want Boot
order. Put Hard Drive as 1st. When you select, say floppy
as it is highlighted you press enter to get selections
and + or - to make the selections once done. esc and F10
to exit with Changes. I personally don't have a boot
order per say I have hard drive first , disable others as
it is one less thing for system to check on when starting
up

I checked this already and it is specified as Hard drive
first, then floppy, then CD-ROM. I can try disabling the
CD-ROM and the third choice and see if that makes a
difference but why would it not boot from my hard drive
when I know I have booted from it sucessfully in the
past. The knowledge base article I saw at one time
described copying two ntkrnl files from the Windows XP CD
into the system directory. This worked for awhile but
then the problem returned.
