Hmm, I would rather call it crippleware.

Reportedly, the xosl.org domain name lapsed last year and somebody
jumped in and snatched it away.

In addition to what russnov said about it, I'll add that XOSL has a
couple features not found in the average boot manager. It can
selectively hide individual logical partitions, not just primary
partitions. That means that you can have different combinations of
hidden-vs-visible data partitions for different OS's. Also, it can
boot the boot sector on a *logical* partition as well as the usual
primary partitions. That means you're not just limited to booting
from the four primary partitions -- you can clone an OS many times and
put them in logical partitions, and be able to boot any one of them.
