when starting a puter, it takes forever to boot then the sceen says
boot.ini failure. i have tried to boot with a windows xp disc and a
back up disk made from a different puter, but it is not working any
tips out there????

A typical BOOT.INI file for a single disk, single partition system looks
like this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect


Go to Control Panel, System, Advanced, Startup and Recovery. Click the Edit
button in System startup. This will open BOOT.INI in Notepad. If the
above description matches your setup, then change your BOOT.INI as needed.
If not, then post the contents of your BOOT.INI and more details on your
system's setup.
