Can anyone tell me where I would find the boot.ini file is XPPro? The file
string where it is located? I know how to edit it when the program is
running but would like to be able to locate it in DOS mode. Thanks

Greetings --

It's in exactly the same place it is in WinNT and Win2K: the root
of the active primary partition, normally C:\. How can you possibly
know how to edit a file if you don't even know how to find it?

The manual method:

1) Click Start > Run, Type "Cmd" and then press <Enter>.

2) Type "Cd\" and then press <Enter>

3) Type "Attrib C:\Boot.ini -h -r -s" and then press <Enter>

4) Click Start > Run, Type "Notepad c:\boot.ini" and then press
<Enter>

5) Edit the file as desired, save it, and then exit Notepad.

6) Type "Attrib C:\Boot.ini +h +r +s" and then press <Enter>

7) Close the command console.

The GUI method:

Right-click My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery
Settings > Edit.

1. Thanks Bevis....... or is it Butthead? Well, I humbly beg your most
humble pardon oh great and honorable one! I do really appreciate all the
assistance I get here, but not the sarcasm. So far you are the only one to
show such rudeness. In the future you can just keep that crap to yourself
or else........... kiss my ass!

I did a "Search" of the entire drive and found only a file titled
boot.ini.backup in the Windows\pss folder. That's the only one. I will
try your suggestion, I just hope it isn't a setup. Not sure if I should
trust you now or not.

The point is is you have to ask then why are you playing with something you don't understand.

Well then, I have a question for you too. How did you learn?

Or were you just born with the gift?

Was that somehow intended to be helpful?
