boot.ini load failure

I recently installed the windowsxp recovery console on my HDD using
the /cmdcons option. After I rebooted my system I had two menu options
w/ a 30 second timer. However, on my subsequent reboots I only get the
two menu options and not a counter and therefore no default OS is
loaded. I've tried using the bootcfg program to change the default os,
and time out paramateres to see if that would help w/ no luck. Here is
my boot.ini:
--------------------------------
[boot loader]
timeout=10
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect
C:\CMDCONS\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" /cmdcons

Hi,

Try bootcfg /rebuild, it sounds like boot.ini has become corrupt.

Go>start\run and type in msconfig and hit ok. Now click the boot.ini tab and then the check all boot paths button. If one is corrupt you will be asked if you want to fix it or delete it. Good luck. {:~)

I tried that and it tells me the recovery console ias not valid. But I
can use it too boot into the console and comparing it to some other
people's boot.ini it seems to be right. BTW: If I remove the second
choice it does auto boot into winxp.

I'll give it a try. Do you think it could be corrupt even if it loads
up fine by manually choosing each option? Thanx!

O.K. Tried this. No luck. It just added another menu item however no
countdown/auto default selection.

Hi,

It does that (calls the entry for the recovery console invalid) as it does
not see it as an installed operating system, just ignore it. All that
matters is that the line works when selected.

Curious, and if you start/run msconfig, go to the boot.ini tab and select
the normal entry then "set as default"?
