I need to create a simple bootfloppy for XP. I need my A
prompt. I then want to access C to modify things. I need
to rename the two SAM files in order to bypass a forgotten
password (the only user account on the system). How do I
make a bootfloppy for XP?

Just to add, if your the file system being used on your computer is NTFS, a
boot floppy will be useless to you as you won't be able to see your files.

You can check the file system by right clicking the C drive, I assume that
the drive on which XP is installed, select properties and on the General
tab, you will see a notation of the file system being used on your setup.

For a lost or forgotten password, see below:
If you have XP Pro on your computer, at the log in screen type
ctrl-alt-delete
twice. In the user account type administrator, leave the password blank and
press enter. You likely didn't create a password for this hidden account
during setup and if the computer was purchased with XP pre-installed it
doesn't likely have one either,

If you have Home, boot into Safe Mode (F8 after the post test and before
Windows starts. Once Windows starts loading, you've missed it and will have
to try again). You'll have an option to log on as Administrator. Again,
the same procedure, you'll be asked to log in to get into safe mode, type
administrator, leave the password blank and press enter.

This will get you in. Then go to Control Panel, user accounts, select the
specific user and select change password. Once you've changed the password
it would be advisable to create a Password Reset Disk by clicking "Prevent a
Forgotten Password" link in the left pane.

Does MS offer a "solution" to this problem???

I know there are r/w NTFS drivers one can purchase from third
parties, but does MS itself offer a way of r/w'ing the C: drive

If I am reading that article right, apparently the floppy just starts
the boot process, but then hands over control to Win XP on the C:
drive. So, to fully boot, you need a fully functioning C: drive
and a working copy of Win XP on that C: drive, no?
