Hi guys and gals
I have what may sound like a dumb question to you computer wizzes.
The way i understand it when you load windows the boot files are always put
on C: , is this corect ?
If so
What would happen if i made my C: 500 mgb or 1 gig and and just let the
boot files go to C: and put operating system on D: ?
Also for dual booting , let all the boot files go to c: and load system on
other parations.
Does this sound far fetched or would it work. And if so would the system be
stable or not ?
Thanks in advance , just playing on my pc here , retired and nothing else to
do. HA HA HA

Carl, XP places the boot files on the boot partition usually C. In my
case I have a triple boot with Me, 2k and xp.
Me was installed first and then 2k places it's bootloader on C and
includes Me overriding Me's bootloader. Then XP
replaces 2k's bootloader with it's bootloader and includes both Me and
2k. You don't have a choice in the matter.
With Linux though you can choose either the mbr ( master boot record )
or the first boot sector in the boot partition.
So, I have three operating systems with their boot files on the C:
Now if I wanted to remove Me and format, I cant
without screwing up 2k, and Xp. I could delete everything from the C:
except the five boot files.

Hi Rich
Thanks for the come back so quickly , I understand the dual and triple boot
, i have done that also.
I just thought if you did not have an operating system on C: , just boot
files , that maybe they wouldn't get overwriten
by the next install. Sounds like that isn't going to happen though. Right?
The theary just crossed my little mind so i had to find out. I am retired
so i got lots of time up here in Minnesota, stay close to the fire in the
winter. I must whipe out my pc about once a month trying different things.
Thanks Rich
Carl
