boot failure

I just installed Windows 2000 onto a new hard drive.
Everything went on smoothly. But when I went to turn it
on the next day I got a series of something I knew
nothing about and then the conclusion "boot failure
system halted." In trying many different things I found
out that it worked with the win2000 cd in. It also moved
on when I pushed the reset button. Internet help was
more about the hardware, but I could get it to boot up
with the cd in or hitting the reset button. I
reinstalled win2000 and that did nothing. I tried to do
a repair, but it said it could not do a repair because
itcould not find the hard drive. I made sure the bios was
updated, the boot is set for the hard drive first, I did
not set it to boot from the network. If I leave the win
2000 disk in and later start up the computer, it starts
as if there are no problems. But I do not what to leave
the cd in for the rest of the life of this compter.

Please help.
Thank you.

You didn't mention the drive controller (possibly SCSI, or ultra DMA, or
ATA100, or raid, or serial ATA), but you may need to boot the Windows 2000
setup disks or CD-Rom and *F6* very early and very important (at setup is
inspecting your system) in the setup to prevent drive controller detection,
and select S to specify additional drivers. Then later you'll be prompted to
insert the manufacturer supplied Windows 2000 driver for your drive's
controller in drive "A"

If you wait and then S to specify additional drivers, then it may be too
late as Windows 2000 Setup at this point may have already assigned the
resources your drive's controller is wanting to use.
