Hi Nicooo :-)

Are you only installing Vista on this machine, or are you going to dual boot
(do you have XP or another OS installed on this same machine? If dual
booting, there is a different set of steps to follow.)

If *not* dual booting, try the following:

Do the following to install the Vista,

1. Put in the Vista DVD in the ROM and restart the computer
2. When it comes up, the drive and/or partition you created should show in
the list. Select the one you to install Vista on and let Vista format the
drive/partition itself.

Once Vista is installed and you are looged on, download and install the
VistaBoot Pro
VistaBoot Pro
http://www.pro-networks.org/vistabootpro/intro.php
1. Open the VistaBoot Pro and click on the Configure tab and under the
Bootloader
section, select Vista from the drop down box to be your default OS.
2. Set the Boot time out for 3 seconds. Click apply.
3. IF you want to rename the Vista install to another name, in the
Entry-Based section, click on Select OS to modify. Select the Vista name and
in the Rename to window, type in whatever name you want to give it.
4. Click on the Manage Entries tab, and highlight the OS in the window that
you want to be the first in the boot menu, and if it is not in the list
first, click the Up tab to move it up.
5. Then click the Backup/Restore tab and save a backup of the new boot menu,
create a new folder on the XP drive and save it there, just in case.
Then close out of VistaBoot Pro and reboot

Even if not dual booting, this should establish the boot function and make
it easy to maintain.

Hope this helps.

Hi rharton :-)

How did you burn your Vista download to the DVD? Did you burn it as an
image, or just copy it to the DVD? How are you preparing the drive? Put
the Vista DVD back in the ROM and this time try to do a Repair.

Jan,
Thank you for this post. It helps clear the air. I have used Vista Boot Pro
but haven't been able to explore its's capabiities.

Could you create a new thread that provides this level of detail for Dual
Boot and include this post for non-duall boot users?

This would be invaluable to me, and I think a few others that frequent this
site.

Have you tried safe mode? If you can get started in safe mode, go into
system properties and stop automatic rebooting. Then you will get the error
message. Also you could check sysem messages if you can start in safe mode.
If you can't get into safe mode, note which item it stops on.
