How do I create the 6 boot disks that are needed to setup
the OS on a new HD?
I am configuring a completely new system (HD, MB, CPU,
etc) and have the OS CD for XP home, but am unable to
access the CD. When I go to download the boot disks it
only allows me to use one disk.

Stan;
Do not save the file to floppy, it is to large, save the executable to
the hard drive.
After it is downloaded, insert a blank floppy and double click the
executable.
You will be prompted when to insert each floppy to make the set.

Are you sure you need the floppies?
All retail and most if not all OEM Windows XP CDs are bootable and all
installation functions available from the CD.

Clean Installation:
Disconnect all peripherals (camera, printer, scanner, etc)
Disconnect network/modem cable.
Go to BIOS and set CDROM as boot device before hard drive.
Insert Windows XP CD and reboot.
At "Press any key to boot to CDROM" quickly press a key and follow the
prompts for a Clean installation:

Delete all partitions in step 5 if you desire to erase all data on the
hard drive.
Partitioning and formatting will be done automatically.
All data will be destroyed, back-up important data first.

Enable or install firewall BEFORE connecting network cable.

Install ALL Critical Windows Updates:
Start/All Programs/Windows Update

After you are finished, you will need to load the appropriate drivers.

If your computer was shipped with Windows XP, these procedures may or
may not apply.
Check your manual or contact the computer manufacturer for more
details.
