Boot Disk Help Please

Hi,
I have spent the last 30 mins trying to create a dos boot disk so I get
upgrade my bios with afudos. But no matter what I do I can't make one. The
error messages I receive, are as follows first I get this:"format" is not
recognized as an internal or external command, operable, or batch file. If I
try to make it like this format a:\s

Or I get an "invalid parameter /s if if I try to make it like this: format
a:/s

I installed windows without dos. I have noticed that I can't
 
Sorry I didn't get to finish my post. I have noticed that i don't have a
config.sys, and autoexec.bat is minimal at best. Can someone help me please.

What version of Windows are you running?
In this post DOS age, it is easier to use Explorer to make a bootable
floppy. In Windows Explorer, right click on your floppy drive. Choose format
and select the bootable disk (startup disk) option.
You can't do it from the command prompt anymore, because the system file
switch is no longer available.

Be sure to remove any emm386 lines, and I don't recall if you can use himem
with BIOS flashing tools?
