boot disk failure.wont recognise hard drive

I switched on comp,got a boot disk failure,tried to
reinstall from cd but it refuses to recognise hardrive
(win,xp home) please help but Im not very good at this
kind of thing
 
First, be sure there isn't a floppy disk in the floppy drive.

If no, it sounds as though your hard drive is failing or has failed and
needs to be replaced. Hard drives come with tools disks that often can
detect if the drive has failed or is about to fail. If you don't have the
disk, it's usually a floppy disk from which you can boot, you can go to your
hard drive manufacturer's web site and check for their tools, then follow
their instructions to run a diagnostic on your hard drive. If you don't
know the manufacturer of your hard drive, you may have to check your
system's documentation or call the PC manufacturer.
