One friend of mine needs a program for his private library so he can sort
his books, enter crucial data for every book, short description and also
track (this is not necessary) to who he has bowrrowed some books.

Thank you.

I created a database for my books using dbworx (http://www.plworx.net)
All the other programs for book collectors are commercial or shareware.
Perhaps you should look at the FAQs on rec.collecting.books.
A google search for freeware book databases didn't turn up anything interesting
the last time I searched for free book dbs. regards, Helium
p.s. there is a free db, Homebase, from ABE.

I haven't used this, but I like the movie organizer from the same outfit.

See the acf Program Information - Organizer web page:

ABE's HomeBase is good - and easy to use. BookTrakker (Liteware) should
be good too (I haven't tried it yet).

He might like to consider :

That way he can create only the "fields" that he/she thinks
appropriate.
