How can the user of the database highlight some of the
text in a descriptive section and make it bold? I have
tried to get the formating toolbar on the datase but the
italic, bold and underline features are disselected...

You can set those properties for the entire contents of a control, but not
for parts of the text within the control, using Access built-in controls.
For more control over data display you need a "rich text control" -- one is
available with the Developer Edition of Access 2002 and earlier and with the
Visual Studio Tools for Office System 2003, for fee from various third
party, and a free one by MVP Stephen Lebans can be downloaded from his site,
