hi, i have xp home sp2 installed, & i'm trying to configure a bluetooth
dongle. i dont have a bt control panel in the control panel window, typing
bthprops.cpl in the run dialog does nothing., & it is not listed in the
services to enable it. how can i enable the bluetooth control panel?

You must install the correct Bluetooth drivers first. Did you receive
a driver CD with the dongle?

yes, it is from a company called bluesoleil. it is install and shows in
device manager, but i still got no bt control panel

Check to see if the Bluetooth service(s) are started up correctly.

Right Click 'My Computer' icon and select 'Manage'.
Scroll down to 'Services' and look for Bluetooth service(s).
Check the status.

Do you know if the "dongle" require Microsoft Bluetooth drivers or do
they use others? My dongle uses the Widcomm drivers, which are now
part of Broadcom. For Microsoft's drivers, it 'seems" that you need
Service Pack 2 (SP2) installed.

If you want to use your WIDCOMM device, you have to setup a program
'Installer for Bluetooth Software' deliver with the device, if you
don't you can't launch bthprops.cpl. For eg with an HP laptop, after
running the setup (event if the bluetooth device is properly installed
in the device panel), you can find two driver btwusb.sys and
btkrnl.sys. Now you can setup the bluetooh device.

Good luck
