I have an Acer Aspire One netbook with XP and service pack 3 installed. I am
trying to install a mouse (Labtec wireless optical mouse plus). Labtec info
says: This product does not require any software. Please use the operating
system's native device drivers.

I suppose the mouse needs bluetooth. I click Start – Controlpanel, but there
is no bluetooth icon.

I have also tried to click (attempted translation from Swedish) Start –
Control panel – Add new machine ware. The list presented does not contain a
choice for a mouse.

Any ideas on how to get the mouse working?

/Ove

Wireless mice DO NOT (usually) need or use Bluetooth.

There should be two elements to your wireless optical mouse, 1). a USB "dongle"
wireless transmitter and 2). the wireless mouse itself.

Plug the dongle into a spare USB port.

Switch on the mouse (there should be an on / off switch underneath the mouse)

Next comes the tricky bit... There should be a button on both the underside of the
mouse and on the dongle. These buttons may or may not be labelled "connect", and
there may only be just the button on the mouse.

If there are both a button on the mouse and on the dongle, first press the button on
the mouse and then (usually within a max period of 30 seconds to 2 mins), press the
second button - on the dongle.

It is at this point that the Window's drivers should automatically detect a "hid"
device ("hid" doesn't mean "hidden" but stands for Human Interface Device - a class
of device that includes mice).

Alternatively, you can usually download the specific manual for most bought hardware
from the internet. You should be able to find it by just typing the make and model
into "Google"...

Labtec doesn't mention the model you named, but the ones listed all have
a USB dongle. One image (below) shows where it's stored on the
underside of the mouse. That, with what Tim Meddick posted should get
you going.

Thank you both Mr Joe and Mr Tim

After some time I found the mouse on the labtec homepage. It was not the
same type that was linked.
http://labtec.com/index.cfm/gear/details/EUR/EN,crid=29,contentid=729

I got this mouse from the fiancé, it was a left over. It was unopened in
it´s package, just a plastic cover.

There is a connect button on the underside that works but there is no dongle
on this mouse, as on the picture in the link.

Specifications on the product:
P/N 831522-0000
M/NM-RBM118
PID PN835MA

None of these search words above can be found on google. Do I have a bootleg
A funny mouse...?

Specifications:

* PC with Windows® 98, 2000, ME or XP
_*_Available_USB_port_or_PS/2_port_
* CD-ROM drive
* Includes 2-year limited warranty

That page mentions that you need a USB or PS2 port, so a sending unit
that plugs into the USB or PS2 port is/was there. If not snapped into
the underside, you may have left it in the packaging.

Sending unit?? Isn't it a receiving unit?

Thank you Mr Joe/Elmo

I didn´t understand what I was reading. Now I know the mouse is not
complete, the USB plug is missing. My misconception, my fault. I´ll simply
buy a new mouse. I learned. Thanks for the thorough replies.

John,
If you were keeping up with the conversation, you would have read "Ove"'s
last post (15-Feb-2010) admitting to us that the mouse is "incomplete", in that the
dongle is missing...
