Help! I have a Dell Dimension w/ Windows XP and Direcway
internet. The computer was real slow so I re-booted. In
start-up I got a blue screen with a message that there
was a problem with Disc C and I let it run the
correction. It then displayed a number of items that were
deleted and fixes that were made. It then shut down and
started to re-boot. When it rebooted, it showed the XP
logo page for about 5 seconds, went black, and then BLUE
SCREEN with nothing except the hourglass. I have turned
off and on, left off for hours, left running for
hours...nothing. I also tried to run the XP
installation/recovery CD but the computer wouldn't read
it. Any suggestions (please!!)

Go to the website of your hard drive manufacturer, find their diagnostic
tools, make note of their instructions, download the tools, make the boot
floppy as instructed, then run their diagnostic on your hard drive. From
what you have posted, it sounds as though Windows detected a problem with
the drive. The diagnostic should tell you if the drive has failed or is
failing.
