Usually, I hope never to see the Beloved Blue Screen of Death. However, in
trying to troubleshoot my recent addition of RDRAM to my system, there is a
quick flash of the BSOD, such that I can't read it. I would dearly love to
se the BSOD this time. Does anyone know how to see it in the instance that
it flashes by?

The symptoms are: Safe Mode Screen
Windows XP Screen
BSOD Flash
Boot Diagnostics
Safe Mode Screen

Running (trying to) WinXP, P4. Situation caused by recent add of
RDRAM...see my earlier posting....

Thanks for any help possible.

Ever Hopeful...

Try unplugging the unit, remove the battery, clear the CMOS,move the CMOS
jumper pin from 1-2 to 2-3 for 1 minute or 2,then back to 1-2,replace
battery,
start computer. You'll need to reset BIOS after.

Right Click My Computer select Properties. Advanced Tab. press Settings button for Startup and
Recovery (3rd box down). Uncheck Automatically Restart. This will give you a chance to see the
error message.

If you are seeing a BSOD, albeit fleetingly, after upgrading RAM, you can be
sure that whatever it says has something to do with the upgrade.. remove
whatever you added and see if it happens..

There is a chance that you have a memory mismatch, or maybe one 'bank' has a
problem..

Right click on MY COMPUTER and select PROPERTIES.. the GENERAL tab should
show memory installed.. does it show the amount that you think is installed?

To check that the memory type is correct, go to http://www.crucial.com/

You might also want to check the motherboard manual supplied.. if you do not
have one, got to the motherboard manufaturer website and download it.. it
may give clues to memory position when using diffferent sized sticks..

To test memory, go to this site and download the program..

http://www.memtest86.com/#download0

Microsoft also suppply a memory tester..

http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

Report back to here with either a 'Yeeeehaaaa, it works' and what you did to
fix it, or for more possible solutions if it doesn't work out..

Good luck

Thanks for the advice...I guess I wasn't clear enough in everything that I
have already done. I have another thread in this area on 4/21 that explained
the whole situation. I am afraid I don't have the ability to connect to
internet on that machine...or run any windows....I am posting from another
pc. Does the memory check that you recommend run from DOS? Also, I loaded
XP with an upgrade on 4/11 and didn't register it yet...if I end up
reformatting this hard drive, do you know if there is a way to reload it
later....obviously there won't be an earlier windows for it to recognize. I
have tried running the repair option already, and it doesn't recognize it. I
have done a scandisk and it found no problems. I have been told that there
are problems with a corrupt boot.ini file, but not sure that what I have done
to repair it is correct either. I have restored to the original config and
the problem persists. The new memory is recognized in the BIOS.....

Thanks again for your help....

Thanks for the advice. Does the action of movig the jumper pins clear the
CMOS, or is that another step? When I do this, what do you expect to be the
outcome...just the ability to see the BSOD? or a miracle(in my eyes, since
I've tried so many things and nothing seems to work, and everything to work
again?

Thanks again

Ever Hopeful

Thanks for the advice....is there a way to get to the setting in DOS, since I
can't get windows to run at all?

Thanks again!
