Blue Screen Error

A few weeks ago I woke to find my computer display picture was gone and in
it's place was a blue screen with a large letter E on the screen and there
was some sort of error.
And when I went to change the picture back it wouldn't let my do anything
but change the color.
Also when I shut the computer down or start it up my original display
picture is there but the the blue screen covers it and I can't get rid of it.
I have Windows XP.
Any suggestions??? Thanks

Antivirus scan ?

I tried that with Norton anti virus 2007, AVG 7.5, Windows Defender, the free Microsoft Virus scan, Avast Anti virus every thing was fine.

I also tried PC Doctor, system restore it won't let me do that either, & I
was chatting with a Microsoft support team member who gave me a patch link
but the link didn't want to open.
I think I have almost tried everything I can think of but doing a system
recovery and starting fresh. I don't know It's very frustating.
