I got the following error message on start up this morning, on my laptop (
Dell Inspiron 8600) -- I'll shorten it a bit:
A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage
to your computer.
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
If this is the first time you've sen this stop error screen, restart. If
screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If
this is new installation, ask hw or sw mfr nor any windows updates.
If problem continues disable or remove any new hw or sw. Disable BIOS
memory options such as caching or shadowing.
If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restartand
prss F8, then select safe mode.
Technical info:

OK -- so -- I have no new hardware or software. It last ran a cd of my
photos from Vietnam and Cambodia which I made myself on my desktop. I shut
it down last night and now this -- I've removed the CD by the way. I was
able to start up in Safe mode, but don't know how to do anything from that
point. How do I stop caching and shadowing for example?
I've got WinXP home edition with all service packs.
Anybody with any wisdom, please post it! Thanks.
