Friday - I installed all recommended updates from the
Microsoft website. On last update - system hangs during
boot up and get following blue-screen message:

STOP: c000026c {Unable to Load Device Drivers}
\SystemRoot\System32\drivers\redbook.sys device driver
could not be loaded
Error Status was 0xc0000022

In command console - I disabled the redbook.sys driver -
not get same message with "portcls.sys" driver.

Additional background:

System is about 20 months old - used in software
production - Visual Basic - pushed hard - and rarely any
problems at all. There have been no recent changes.

Updates were installed in a series of updates as certain
ones were not compatible with the others. After each
update - system booted fine - until the last one.

I have spent hours reviewing thru the knowledge base - as
well as reviewing the documentation installed with each
update.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter. Any help
you can provide will be greatly appreciated - including
pointing me in the right direction.

Just finished uninstalling most of the updates - and
system is booting properly now.

Going to try reinstalling updates again - and see if it
works this time.

Thank you for your assistance..

Jim,

I had a very similar problem and have also now uninstalled
SP4 and the hotfixes, so would be interested to find out
if you have successfully installed SP4 and the hotfixes
(and if so, how)
