My laptop has contracted this virus and despite buying software and taking to PC World I haave not been able to remove.

The virus initially hijacked the browser and turned the desktop background black with the message that the computer was infected with virus. Subsequently the computer seems to run out of control and does not respond to keyboard

Has anyone experienced this and/or found a solution?

try booting into safe mode and scaning, what antivirus are you using ? what is the exact name of the virus ?

Had performed safe mode action and used stinger software as well as spyzooka to try to remove but no joy. The virus has been described as bloodhound/smitfraud.

After googling and reading a few articles about this, it seems quite a tricky one to get rid of, have a look here.

It seems you will have to remove it manually using various tools, including HijackThis. We do not have the resources on this forum to analyse HijackThis logs, so I suggest you have a look at the link I have provided and join the relevant forum there to seek assistance.

sorry I can't be of more help!:(

Thanks for this. The only problem is that the computer is running haywire and as such can not download to that machine as there is no response to keyboard. I will post on forum to see if anyone has any answers.

The final solution of course is to format and re-install your OS - are you able to retrieve your important files?

Hi Tina - welcome to PC Review

Yep - seen that, a lot has happened here since these old posts in 2005 ;)

We now recommend various fixes including Smitrem for this , and also help out with HijackThis analysis - feel free to look over at the Security, Spyware and Viruses section :thumb:
