blocking a pc from obtaining ip address

peridically, i get visitors from other divisions plug
their computer into my network with telling IT.....


Is there a way i can block a client pc from obtaining an
ip address when plugging into my network? maybe something
in dhcp i can set?...

Hi Rob,

DHCP has no "security" configuration that would allow you to block certain
users or computers from obtaining an IP address. There are two possible
ways that I know of to prevent users from getting IP addresses:

1. Use 802.1x authentication - this requires that you have hardware that
supports it.
2. Create reservations for all of your "authorized" clients and exclude any
unreserved IP address in your scope.
