Blocked Content on PayPal, other sites

When I go into PayPal, I get toolbar message on top that says, "Internet
Explorer has blocked this website from displaying content with security
certificate errors." When I choose "Click here for options," then "Display
blocked content," it's fine. Is there anyway to prevent this message from
popping up every time I go to PayPal? I have seen it on some other sites,
but my main interest is in eliminating this on PayPal since I go to it often.
Please advise.
Thanks.
Mark

Hi Mark,

IE version (sounds like 7)?

When you navigate to Paypal, double click on the security icon (globe icon)
on the status bar. This will open up Internet Options at the Security tab.
Click on the Trusted Sites icon (Tick) and then press the Sites button.

PayPal should already be listed, ready to add to your Trusted Sites zone.
Press the Add button. Done... the default security settings for the Trusted
sites zone should be sufficient to view PayPal without the Information bar
appearing.

Regards.

Yes, I do have IE 7. But I see no security globe icon. So I went into
Tools/Internet Options/Security/Trusted Sites/Sites. As you say, PayPal is
ready to be placed into Trusted. I did this. I also first left checked and
then unchecked "Require server verification for all sites in this zone."
Either way, problem persists. It's as if when I go into Paypal site, there's
one download that hangs up the complete load for a few seconds, then finally
it loads, and the security certificate error pops up.

Hi Mark,

I am located in Australia, and I get redirected to the Australian site for
Paypal when I login. But the site certificate for the Australian site loads
fine. It was issued on 30/1/2007, which should be the same certificate for
all their sites.

When you go to paypal, select the File>Properties menu item. At the bottom
of that dialog you will find a Certificates button... click it to view the
site Certificate properties.
In IE7 you can also click on the Padlock icon that appears next to the
address bar to view the Certificate properties. (If you don't have a padlock
icon, and your anti-phishing filter is turned off, then you are not at the
real paypal site)

On the General tab, there is a button to Install Certificate.... this will
update any local copies that you have of their certificates. I am thinking
that you have previously installed their last certificate prior to 30/01/07
(their last issue date)

I trust that you have used Paypal before and have not clicked on any links
passed to you in an email. I can access the site just fine and I am worried
that you may have been redirected to a spoofing site.

Regards.

I think we're getting closer. PayPal Certificate says "Issued by Verisign
Class 3 Extended Valiation SSL SGC CA. Valid from 1/29/2007 to 1/29/2009"
So this is current. Even so, I went ahead and Installed Certificate and was
told Import Successful. Yet the persistent problem continues to be that
PayPal site and all subsites hang up for several seconds noting at screen
bottom: "(1 item remaining) Downloading picture https://extended validation
-SSL.verisign.com/dot_clear.gif ... " So is it a picture that's the problem?
Very mysterious. Never had this problem with any other site.

Hi Mark,

Are you using a Hosts file? or Firewall/Productivity control.... something
that may be blocking content.
(I don't think this is a high probability.... it looks like this image is a
tracking cookie in disguise)

What about your Privacy settings. Tools>Internet Options - Privacy tab. I
have a Medium setting, which works.

When I view the Privacy Policy report (View>Web Page Privacy Report) I see
two accepted cookies from PayPal)

I am crossing my fingers that this is it.

Regards.

Hi Mark,

I've run out of ideas.... well one left... try pressing refresh (Ctrl+F5)
while you are waiting for paypal to load. The routing from your location to
the locations where paypal is sending content (different domains are used to
provide content and certification) may be obtuse and some content is timing
out.

Also check that on the Advanced tab of Internet Options you have

User SSL 2.0 and Use SSL 3.0 checked. (I have Use TLS 1.0 unchecked)

(the above are listed as possible causes on the "Cannot load Page" error
message)

Regards.

In IE's Advanced Options, uncheck the box by "Check for server certificate
revocation" (if IE 7 has that. I'm still using IE 6)

IE7 still has that.

I too am having this problem - when I attempt to log on I receive a security
message that the "certificate has been revoked"
