Hi

Someone has sent me an attachment which I know is clean and which I really
really need

But OE announces that it has blocked access to it and I can't open it

Anyone tell me how to unblock the attachments please??

(and generally how to stop Microsoft interfering and preventing me from
getting on with the work I have to do)

cheers

Jon

Tools-Options-Security for the 120,000th time!

well not to me for the 120, 000the time

perhaps MS ought to explain itself better and not expect uers to hold a
doctorate in buggering about in its endless menus

but thanks anyway

Jon

btw can I also ask how to turn off the irritating bit of unwanted
information that pops up whenever I rest the cursor somewhere, and obscures
the thing I actually wanted to look at

Microsoft think of everything!

cheers

Start
-Control Panel
--Folder Options
---View tab
scroll to the bottom and UNcheck:
Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items
Apply
OK

Chances are you'll forget in about 10 minutes though. I'm
afraid there's not much help for people who would rather
whine like little girls than click the mouse a few times
to find an answer.

great, thanks

Greetings --

Outlook Express' default security settings are simply trying to
protect you. OE has no way of telling whether an attachment actually
contains a virus or not, so it temporarily blocks any of those file
types that could potentially contain a virus. In Outlook Express,
Tools > Options > Security, uncheck the "Do not allow attachments to
be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" option, assuming
you trust the source, of course. The wiser course of action, however,
would be to modify your list of unsafe files, as outlined in the KB
articles below:

No doctorate required; just the ability to click Start > Help and
Support, where almost all questions are answered.
