I have been posting on a local website .Something strange is happening if I print the word "bob" which in Welsh means "all". Every time this word appears on the site it becomes XXX.What could explain this? I know that it can also be a name Bob but I have not used it as such but as part of a sentence.

Hi Bodandre, it looks as if it might be the site's way of censoring the word (although I think it's more usual to use asterisks *** than Xs.) I had a quick look at acronyms for "bob" but couldn't find anything to cause blushes there, ;) But, perhaps I've just led a sheltered life and someone else will be able to throw light on it :D

What's Welsh for 'bugger-all' then?

Bum-Bob?

I can't see any earthly reason why a site should ban the Bob word, seems like an error to me.

Yep, TC has hit the nail on the head there - it sounds like it's a censored word. I'd send the webmaster of that site an e-mail and ask why it's happening, as I can't think why the word "bob" would be banned. :)

Apparently, it's "bygro" or "bygr" ... according to a Welsh translation site ;)
:D
Just knew you'd want to know that!

It does stand for something but i cant really say on here

needless to say something to do with batteries

but hey ive always been a bit sick and know things like that

im in touch with my female side (hint)

Thank you Taffycat I think you have hit the nail on the head. I know that the site owner has a bit of a hate thing against a local councillor called Bob so the likely explanation is that he has censored it just incase someone happens to say something complimentary about Bob who happens to be a very popular & hardworking man. Sad isn't it?
