I am helping a friend with his network. There are five computers networked
using windows 2000. One of them seems to have dropped off of the network. It
can ping the other computers but cannot access the workgroup. It also can use
the internet through the router. The other computers can all see it and
access it. What am I missing?
Thanks in advance for the help

Then it is still "on the network."
It also can use the internet through the router.

What specifically will it not do? "See" other
computers in Network Neighborhood or somethng
else...

Try each of these and let us know which work
(command line):

Net View \\workgroupName
(should get a list of servers)

Net view \\anotherMachine
(should get a list of shares)

nbtstat -N
nbtstat -r

Sometimes cheap hubs get confused and don't
broadcast correctly. That will stop your
browsing.
