Thanks for any help on this. It is mostly an annoyance, and I have looked at KB, but found no
answer.

Microsoft Word (10.6612.6626) SP3
AMD 1900, 736 Ram, Nforce 2GP

When opening a BLANK word document Word requests internet access and takes up to 18 seconds to
load a blank document.
I understand that links in a doc can cause this, but how do I make it stop when opening a blank
doc?

-----------
other stuff running:
Zone Alarm - currently set to deny word access, setting it to allow lets it load in 5/6 seconds
MacAfee Security Center
Logitech mouse EM_EXE.EXE
Nothing else in tray.

Addins: MapPoint, Via Voice, Avery Wizard

I'd be looking for an Office plug-in in McAfee.

Thanks!
Fixed!
Now loads in the blink of an eye.

I deleted the key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Word\Data

Try this: Close Word, and rename (don't delete) your normal.dot file as
described in http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProbsOpeningWord.htm. Word
will create a new normal.dot when you restart it. If that fixes the
problem, you can copy your customizations from the old
normal-whatever-you-renamed-it.dot to the new normal.dot.
