when i am on the net and click on a link on a page all that opens is a blank explorer window for example when i tryed to click on the whats a display name on the new thread screen it still comes up blank please help its doing my head in

try this first

1.. Quit all programs that are running.
2.. Click Start, and then click Run.
3.. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK.
4.. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded"
message, click OK.
If this does not resolve the problem, repeat steps 2 through 4 for each of
the following files (in step 3, replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file
names below):
a.. Shdocvw.dll
b.. Msjava.dll
c.. Actxprxy.dll
d.. Oleaut32.dll
e.. Mshtml.dll
f.. Browseui.dll
g.. Shell32.dll (Windows XP and Windows 2000 only)

I was told the reason for the blank screen is because of firewalls. If you have Norton Firewall up and then the XP firewall, that is one too many. There are a couple websites that I have to disable my Norton until I sign on and then enable it again.

If you have to disable your firewall to access a site, then something else is wrong.
Sounds to me like you are defeating the purpose. Like taking off your seat belt because
you are going to drive 120 MPH.
You may not have your firewall configured correctly. I know nothing about Norton, so I
can't help.
No you should not have XP's firewall and a third party firewall running at the same
time. That can cause problems also.
Turning off your firewall while connected is very unsafe. It only takes about two
minutes to get nailed. Do you ever look at the firewall log(s)? I've read countless
posts where somebody just did
a clean install and got online to get Windows Updates and got nailed with a virus or worm
before
they even got started downloading updates.
This is not a matter of opinion.
Like somebody's (I don't remember who's) signature says. "Practice safe eating, always
use condiments." :o)

I'm just using Norton. Any solution to why the screen would be blank?
