blank template overwritten

For some reason, a blank word document template I chose to use when creating a new document retained the text I used in that document and now I can't get rid of it. Every time I want to create a new document and choose "blank" from my list of choices, it opens up that "blank" document which contains the text of the previous document I had created earlier.

Is it possible to delete the "blank" template from my choices and replace it with another blanK template or how can I get this document to stop opening every time I choose "blank" when I want to create a new document?
