Hello

After initial beep when starting my computer, the screen
goes blank and I cant do anything, not even
Cntrl+Alt+Delete works. I have a Toshiba laptop. Any Ideas?

In most cases when a machine freezes up like yours,
the problem is caused by an interrupt conflict. Removing
adapters such as network adapters usually resolves the
problem. In such cases, Safe Mode works flawlessly,
because Safe Mode does not activate these adapters.

In your case things are a little different. I suspect that
some file got damaged during the defragging process.
If it was my machine then I would boot it with the Win2000
CD, select Repair when prompted, then get it to repair/
replace damanged or missing system files. You will
probably have to re-install the latest Service Pack.

Thank You very much, I forgot to mention that I did that
already. As a matter of fact before I rebooted and used
the repair functions of windows 2000, I was just getting a
blinking curser on my display. It was only after the
repair that it went to the blank screen.

I just ran the repair setup again and windows told me that
it could not repair it this time because of an "Internal
inconsistency" (A2210).

Hope that helps
thanks

I think it's time to load Win2000 over the top of the existing
installation.
