This morning, I turned on my computer and received a black
and white screen that started off with "We apologize for
the inconvenience, but Windows did not start
successfully....". The screen went on with directions to
start in various modes, including "Safe", "Last Known"
and "Normally". When I did "Last" and then "Normal", I
received the standard MS Windows XP screen with the green
scroller...and nothing else. This same screen remained
for at least 45 minutes and maybe forever! When I shut
off the computer and started again... the same thing
happened. When I started under the "Safe" options, all I
received was a black-and-white screenful of various file
names and then stopped. I would certainly appreciate any
ideas to fix this. I'm writing this request on an old
plain Pentium box, Windows 95 with just a 56K connection.
Sure makes me appreciate XP,DSL and P4!!! Thanks for any
help available...Wes-Pendleton, Oregon

Hardware problem?
Motherboard? Hard drive? Memory?

I actually takes a while for my computer on Win XP top load in "safe mode" like
up to three minutes. Video drivers, maybe a bad video card, make sure it's
firmly seated in the motherboard.
