I just spent too much time to admit trying to solve a problem with
blank/black screens whenever I went into BIOS with my ASUS P4P800
motherboard, ATI RADEON 9600XT card, and Samsung DVI-connected flat
panel monitor. The machine worked fine otherwise, once Windows XP
started, but I had no access to BIOS. I ultimately came up with two
solutions that worked.
1.) Turn ON plug and play OS support in BIOS (using another video
card).
2.) Switch to an NVIDIA based card.
It turns out there is an inherent conflict with some video cards and
some digital flat panel monitors. The issues gets resolved once
Windows XP starts, but not during POST.
I hope this saves someone some time.
