Hi There

For the last month, I've been tryng to save my Movie Maker 2 movies into WMV/AVI format, but had no success
When MM2 has completed rendering my movie, I look at the finished product, and find that the movie is completely black, yet the sound from the movie still works. The source movie files I used in these particular occastions, were of AVI format. I have noticed, however, that MPEG and WMV source movie files save just fine in all other formats
Eg. AVI (saved to AVI/WMV) >> Blank movie
WMV/MPEG (saved to AVI/WMV) >> Movie that works âˆ

Is there anyone out there that can help?
Thanx
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Seems like a codec issue, especially if the source files came from downloads
or other sources than firewire capture from a digital camcorder.... in
either case I have lots of notes in the Problem Solving section of my
website which might help you assess it.

Hi there,

I once downloaded an avi of the Alien Song, created by a very talented
artist in the Video world. It plays perfectly well when viewed in Media
Player but would not play when used in Movie Maker. I cannot remember what
software I used, but I eventually determined that the audio track was at an
odd sampling rate.

I solved the issue in the end by using a feature of my audio card which
lets you record "What you Hear" (Creative Labs) I then had to import the
video into MovieDV from AIST, Mute the Audio and then import the audio
grabbed from the soundcard....the result is that, that clip now works
anywhere.

The point in telling you this is, Most people quite rightly want to protect
their work because others (Plagiarists) rip off that work and gain some
type of financial benefit. It is therefore possible that the files you have
downloaded have been the subject of some similar attempt to protect them,
and it might not be possible to use them.

With all things, there is more than one way of skinning a cat
